What is involved in the KCFT Steps to Success Programme?

The KCFT Steps to Success Programme uses a range of learning modules, grounded within Te Ao Māori. As such, we mindfully adhere to, and practice from, an approach aligned with Te Tiriti o Waitangi and Te Whare Tapa Wha Model (Tā Mason Durie).

The KCFT Steps to Success Programme is designed to address personal and cultural barriers contributing to the high rate of Māori and Pacific Island rangatahi who are not in education, employment or training (NEET); or at-risk of becoming or returning to NEET (NEET/at-risk).

The KCFT Steps to Success Programme utilises the 7 key employability skills to ensure that rangatahi are ready to transition into sustainable employment. The KCFT Steps to Success Programme places a large emphasis on modifying personal attributes and negative barriers our rangatahi may have developed. Through intensive, enhancing and meaningful engagements, our rangatahi place a lot of trust in us and our roles as mentors to them.  We firmly believe that rangatahi have all the answers needed within themselves - we merely work alongside them to dig deep and discover those answers. We hold the hope for our rangatahi, until they are ready to hold this for themselves.

The KCFT Steps to Success Programme uphold and incorporate Te Tiriti o Waitangi - putting rangatahi at the forefront in exercising their Tino Rangatiratanga.  We are helping our rangatahi to change their internal narrative through intensive engagement, where their confidence begins to build and many begin to realise that they are able to achieve their own definition of success.

Through implementing key values and concepts of Te Ao Māori, a light and fun environment is both fostered and nurtured. A safe place to share, learn and make mistakes, where staff learn as much from the rangatahi, as the rangatahi learn from them. It is about walking alongside the rangatahi – not in front or behind.
