View from track into Nikau Palm grove

Kaipātiki Explorer

Ridgewood Reserve

Main Entrances are off Verran Road, Ridgewood Crescent and the Roseberry Avenue cul de sac.

A small reserve with plenty of mature native trees and ferns, the bottom of the track follows the Kaipatiki Creek down a gully so you are soon well away from surburbia. There are some steep parts to the track, but not too challenging, and it is well worth the effort.

There is a small stand of mature kauri up the top towards Inglis Street, so be careful to stay on the track, while taking the other route up into Ridgewood Reserve proper, you will see large, mature rimu, totara and tanekaha and lots of nikau. With the new track work done, this is a great walk to be right in amongst our native forest.

The Kaipãtiki Stream flows through the reserve, and is home to freshwater fish like kōkopu and eels.
