KCFT Steps to Success – What is involved in the programme
An explanation of the various things that make up the KCFT Steps to Success Programme.
It is a 6 week programme:
Weeks 1 - 6
Foundational part of the programme
Weeks 6+
Support for transition into employment or further education or training.
Weeks 1 - 6
Rangatahi (in partnership with their whānau and any relevant service providers) embark on a journey of self-discovery with the KCFT Steps to Success team. Whilst on this programme, rangatahi develop their own ‘Who Am I’ portfolio, building resilience and confidence within themselves.
Rangatahi explore and build their own unique learning styles and preferences, as the programme is adapted and tailored to best suit their needs. No groups are taught the same, as meeting the needs of rangatahi is paramount to the KCFT Steps to Success team.
Rangatahi will build their own personalized visual Curriculum Vitae (CV) and receive tailored support as they navigate through exploring what the world has to offer them in the respective pathways. Rangatahi receive personalised support form staff to transition into their identified pathways.
The Steps to Success Programme has a dedicated Wellbeing Connector available, who rangatahi will be invited to work with during the ongoing sessions. The Wellbeing Connector works alongside rangatahi to support their journey through the programme and beyond.
The Steps to Success Programme also has a selection of workshops which rangatahi will attend, including the following:
- Site Visits
- Driver's License (Learners to Full, Fully Funded)
- Self-Awareness/Leadership
- Weaving and Kawakawa Balm
- Nutrition
- Sensory Modulation

Weeks 6+
Once rangatahi identify their unique pathways, KCFT Steps to Success will match them with the best available opportunity for their ongoing success. KCFT Steps to Success will continue to support rangatahi in an ongoing basis following their transition.
This is youth-led support, like they receive in the Weeks 1 - 6 module, and is centred on the on-going career development of the rangatahi as they create a firm foundation within their new pathways.
This wraparound support is inclusive of the rangatahi, their whānau and their pathway (education, training or employment). Rangatahi are still able to access the Wellbeing Connector during this time, and are called back for Driver Licensing Wānanga.
